Some people might really like what
is attached above, but for others (which are a lot, or so I think) the view is
quite amusing, some might even feel sick just by seeing it. Now, to be fair,
for people who do not like seeing the view, do scroll down a bit, and just
enjoy my writing.
Raw food, or sashimi, as people know is a part of Japanese cuisine. But, it is
not originally from Japan. It is said that sashimi
was brought to Japan from China during the Heian period (794-1185 A.D). People
usually are not familiar with the term sashimi
and use the term sushi instead. As
you can see, just by the name, those two terms are different, thus they are
obviously different. While sushi can
use raw food like fish on top of its rice, sashimi
is the raw food and served without rice. So, the difference is that sushi is rice (already mixed with rice
vinegar) with other ingredients (fruits, seafood, meats, etc.)
The common restaurant based menu
for sashimi are salmon-sashimi, tuna-sashimi,
octopus-sashimi, squid-sashimi, mackerel-sashimi and scallop-sashimi. Other
seafood sashimi are usually prepared
in a bigger Japanese restaurant. Until now, maybe, people assumed that sashimi are raw seafood. This is why I
used the term ‘raw food’ above. There are also bean-curd-sashimi and
meats-sashimi like chicken or beef, even horse. If you like chewy-textured
food, you should like sashimi.
Now let’s talk about how this
awesome delicacy is usually served. It is served with daikon-radish, red
ginger, sometimes with ponzu-sauce. It is eaten with soy sauce and wasabi. People
might assume that raw food stench, well, that’s not incorrect, but that’s raw
food, sashimi is a special kind of
raw food. Do believe me, it doesn’t stench. Some people say it is not safe to
eat sashimi, but it is, and if you
want to be safe eat it with wasabi. Wasabi is known to be able to kill bacteria
and parasites that are present in raw food.
As for my own experience eating this, I have to say, my first time eating sashimi was awesome. I was really enjoying my four servings of Salmon sashimi. It was somewhere in North Jakarta, I forgot where I tried this the first time. Like I say before, the chewy texture really amazed me back then and still amazes me somehow. I really think this is a luxurious dish, the way this dish is served usually looks appetizing (for me) and artistic.
For the price, as sashimi is a special food, it is quite
pricey, but to be able to eat such delicacy with a high price, I do think it is
worth it. You can find sashimi in
sushi restaurants, ramen shops do not usually serve this.
That's all for today! Have a great day, readers :D
